In rootwork and Southern conjure traditions, hats are often used in dominating or protective spells, as they sit upon the head (the seat of the mind and willpower). This spell is used to make someone listen to your advice or change their mind about a decision.

The "Mind-Bending" Hat Spell

Items Needed:

A hat worn frequently by the target (or a piece of paper with their name on it).

Controlling Root (such as Licorice Root or High John the Conqueror Root).

A piece of parchment paper.

"Bend Over" Oil (or a similar commanding oil).

Directions:

On the parchment, write the target's name three times. Across the name, write what you want them to do (e.g., "agree to my terms/ listen to me").

Anoint the paper with Bend Over Oil.

Place the paper and a small piece of the Controlling Root inside the sweatband of the hat, or tuck it underneath the liner.

Place your hands over the hat and say:

"As this hat covers your head, so do my thoughts cover yours. You will think as I think, and do as I say. By the power of this root, it is done."

Ensure the target wears this hat while making the decision.

After years of not shooting, I jumped into the studio with John Ball to play at the West End Studio in Toronto.
