So pay attention, be willing to be convinced, and say less. It might make you feel like a mad scientist, especially if you're documenting your observations but it changes things. As you practice, the people will open up more and you'll recall details better. And you'll notice that when you speak, you will command the room. People will listen. It eventually makes it easier to talk with folx you disagree with wholeheartedly because true listening gets you outside of your emotions and by default, you are less reactive. When you can manage how you project your energy, you can better diffuse tense situations. Active listening lets you become so present that time seems to slow down.
